COMMUNITY PLANNING ORGANIZATION (CPO)

Minutes of November 1, 2023

Virtual Meeting on “Zoom”

Notice of meeting: The community was notified of the date, time, and location of the meeting via local social media, the CPO’s website and Clackamas County’s website. In addition, notice was sent by direct email to interested community members including those applicants whose applications were being considered for comment.

Chairperson, Martin Meyers called the meeting to order at 7:15 pm over the internet, via “Zoom”.

Attendance: Sixteen (16) people were present at the virtual meeting, including seven board members.  Board members: Chair Martin Meyers, Vice-chair Lance Ward, Secretary Donna Hazel, Marie Naughton, Nancy Read, Bobbi Bryan, and Vicki Fabryka. Voting members Doug Brown, Linda Brown, Lois Read, Doug Towsley, and Jay Henke were in attendance.  Also at the meeting were Kevin Whitner, Stan Johnson, Chris (last name not available), and Dale & Julie Reynolds.

Jay Henke, manager of Clear Creek Communications, presented an informative program about our local co-op’s project of fiber optic installation.  This year, Clear Creek was awarded a $6.9 million low-interest loan from the USDA’s Rural Utility Services Reconnect Program.  With these funds, CCC is able to begin the first phase of fast internet to our area.  Lines are being placed underground down Fischers Mill Rd to Strowbridge Road and Springwater Road initially.  The plan is to convert all homes on Strowbridge and Charriere Roads in the first quarter of 2024.  The goal for 2024-2025 is to have fiber constructed from the Harding Grange to the Gerber Feed Store and the surrounding area.

There will be no impact on rates to customers using Clear Creek Communications.  In fact, there have been no rate increases on phone and internet services in 12 years.  There are many benefits to having fiber optic technology in place.  Fiber can carry up to 20,000 times more content than a copper cable (our present system in place), and one single fiber strand can service 32 homes.  Down load speeds will be much faster, fiber is very October 4, 2023.  Martin Meyers moved that the minutes be approved, seconded by Vicki Fabryka and the minutes were approved by 9-0-1..

Reports

Martin Meyers gave a report regarding the C4.  Martin will not continue to represent the CPOs after January when his term expires.  He is encouraging someone to take his place to continue for the CPOs to have a voice.  Meetings are once a month, the first Thursday.

We are reminded that Board positions are up as of October and elections will be held  at our November meeting.  The board is made up of 7 positions, and 4 two-years terms are expiring this year, and 3 two-year terms next year.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:26 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Donna Hazel, secretary
